We went for a day hike with Elias on February 2nd. To start, Elias was by far the best guide we had during our 9 days in Costa Rica. His English was great, he was extremely knowledgable, and he was lots of fun for us and the kids (8 and 10). Not twenty feet into our walk, he asked my daughter what she wanted to see. She replied, "Blue jeans frog." He turned around went into the brush right by where we stood and immediately came back with one in each hand. I still don't know how he did that. We saw lots of frogs (including the red eye tree frogs), sloths, toucans, other birds, agoutis, butterflies, bats, and lizards.
For wildlife enthusiasts like us, it was absolutely incredible. We had so much fun that we did a night hike with Elias the next night that was largely frog focused. We must have seen 8 or so different species that night plus other wildlife. This and Proyecto Asis were the highlights of our trip to Arenal. Be sure to ask for Elias--he was an important part of our experience.
